Subject Choices
How do I find out about different subjects?
- The best place to start is your school. Make sure that you…
- read your school’s options booklet
- ask your subject teachers questions
- go along to your school’s options evening
- attend any talks about new subjects that sound interesting
- Also go online and use your local Area Prospectus in Worcestershire or Herefordshire
What questions should I ask about subjects?
When you are talking to other people such as subject teachers it’s a good idea to ask them…
What will the subject or course cover?
- Is it like any other subject or course?
- Will I have to travel to another school or college to study this subject?
- What jobs or higher level courses will this subject be useful for?
- Will there be exams?
- Will my coursework count?
- How much homework will there be?
- Will I do work experience as part of the course?

When talking to your parents or carers why not discuss with them…
- Ideas about subjects they think would suit you?
- If the subject has lots of extra commitments such as rehearsals, a trip abroad or lots of course work, will they be able to support you?
- If you do best at coursework or exams?
Your ideas about jobs – will your subject choice keep all your options open?
